Romyri Revival Exhibition

Romyri Revival Exhibition

The Romyri Revival Exhibition, curated by P4architecture, was designed to immerse visitors in the architectural and cultural essence of the historic settlement while creating a contemporary narrative for its revitalization. The exhibition’s design blended thoughtful materiality with functionality, highlighting both the tangible and intangible elements of Romyri’s heritage.

At the heart of the exhibition was a large central table, showcasing an array of original objects and fragments sourced from Romyri. Carefully organized in a grid, the display included old window frames, metal hardware, wall finishes, ceramic roof tiles, and other authentic elements from the settlement. This tactile arrangement allowed visitors to engage directly with the materials that define the village’s character and history, offering a tangible connection to its architectural identity.

The exhibition walls featured a freestanding wooden structure, anchored against the room’s stone walls. This self-supporting system provided a flexible and modular solution for displaying the exhibition boards, which detailed analyses, restoration proposals, and architectural interventions. Designed for portability, the structure can be easily disassembled and reassembled, ensuring versatility and enabling future use in other locations.

The content of the exhibition focused on the architectural study of Romyri’s most significant buildings, highlighting their cultural value and the restoration techniques proposed for their revitalization. Detailed drawings, photographs, and narratives provided insight into the history of the village and the strategies for its sustainable future. Additionally, the exhibition showcased student projects from the Architecture School of the National Technical University of Athens, which offered innovative ideas and restoration proposals developed during their visit to Romyri in 2023, during the course “Special Topics in Building Technology, 8th Semester – Restoration of Traditional Buildings.”

The curation emphasized a harmonious balance between the raw authenticity of the objects and the modern precision of the display system, creating an environment where history and design met to tell Romyri’s story.
