IDS Services - Office renovation

In a central and strategic location on Mesogeion Street in Athens, we are delighted to have been chosen to design the new offices for IDS Services, an innovative company specializing in drone services and education. The founders of the firm provided us with specific spatial requirements for this project, which encompass the following key aspects:

Firstly, we are tasked with creating an efficient office space that caters to the needs of the permanent staff, comprising 1-2 individuals. This area will serve as a versatile workspace that can easily transform into a functional meeting room, ensuring optimal utilization of the available space.

Additionally, our design proposal had to include a dedicated seminar space meticulously planned for drone piloting lessons and hosting related educational seminars. This space will be tailored to meet the specific demands of drone enthusiasts and learners, fostering an immersive and engaging learning environment.

To further enhance the functionality and comfort of the office, we were asked to incorporate auxiliary spaces within the layout. These areas, collectively called the service zone, will encompass a fully equipped kitchen, a cozy lounge, and a well-appointed restroom, providing a seamless experience for employees and visitors alike.

In our approach to this project, we employ three distinct gestures that optimize the utilization of the available space and foster a harmonious working environment:

Creation of Three Functional Zones: The office layout will be thoughtfully divided into three functional zones, carefully separated by lightweight internal partitions. This design strategy allows for enhanced flexibility, accommodating users’ preferences for privacy, integration, and openness. The three designated zones are the work space-meeting room, the seminar area, and the service zone.

Designing Boundaries and Walls: Our design strategy involves utilizing the walls effectively by incorporating shelves, storage spaces, and display areas tailored specifically for drones and their equipment. This approach ensures a clutter-free and organized workspace, promoting efficiency and ease of access.

Redefining the Openings: We paid particular attention to the openings in the office. Towards the street facing side, we will install gathering curtains to regulate natural light and sound, ensuring a comfortable and conducive working environment. On the other side, facing the uncovered area, roller blinds will create a unified surface along the interior boundary, adding to the overall aesthetic appeal of the space.

Moreover, our focus on materiality enhances the office’s overall design and ambiance. Four carefully selected materials are key to achieving the desired aesthetic and functional elements. These materials include Italian white cement-marble semi-polished terrazzo for the floors, oak wood finishes for all designed furniture and equipment, semi-transparent ribbed glass for the translucent panels, and white steel structures for the custom-designed elements.
