This proposal concerns the design of three independent holiday residences on a small plot situated on the eastern side of the island of Rhodes\u2014an area of exceptional natural beauty, yet lacking a coherent architectural identity. The project explores the optimal typological configuration of each residence in relation to the landscape, orientation, and key visual perspectives.
The architectural design of the typical unit was guided by the following objectives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. To articulate the concept of Mediterranean living through a sequence of communal, private, and non-programmatic spaces. A linear progression of outdoor, indoor, semi-outdoor, atrium, and enclosed garden areas is employed to generate the spatial qualities characteristic of Mediterranean life, all integrated within an elongated residential form.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. To elevate the residential structure on a raised plinth, allowing the private bedrooms to be distributed across multiple levels within the resulting cross-section. This strategy minimizes the building\u2019s footprint and mitigates its impact on the natural terrain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. To utilize locally sourced materials in the construction of the building envelope. A continuous U shaped wall, built from porous limestone, encloses and protects the residence. The longitudinal edges of the wall are staggered to frame diagonal views toward the sea and enhance spatial depth. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Through this approach, the cabanon lin\u00e9aire is formed – a linear sequence of interior, exterior, and transitional spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


    Following a modular logic, the unit is repeated three (3) times. Each iteration is slightly shifted in relation to the previous one, optimizing views, enhancing privacy, and improving circulation and access. The result is a cohesive architectural ensemble that allows the wild Mediterranean landscape to permeate the site and become an integral part of the composition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
